It seems like a long time has passed since I joined this website. Since April of 2010, I have spoken to a large number of people online and have seen many points of view regarding news and opinions that effects the US and foreign nations too. When I started, I was not perfect and I made mistakes but that only improved my ability to discuss topics of importance. I have seen that I have changed my own outlook on many different topics and I have strengthened some core ideals at the same time. Anyone that has seen me on this website knows that I am a socialist Liberal that believes in equality for all and injustice towards no one in this republic. I have not had the experience that many have had from decades of experience and that means that my values and understanding of the world must yet be tested in the world and it may never be unless I have no choice but to stand against injustice personally. It may come in the form of protests against Obama's third war of aggression or even in defiance of something even more threatening.
I am glad to have had the opportunity to speak and debate my points of view with so many different people. I hope to do so for this next year and into the future. There are some people that cannot debate without anger or hostility. I think people shouldn't resort to name-calling and harassment of our fellow Newsvine members so easily, even if they have a different point of view. I hope that debate with me was not believed to have been done in vain. I appreciate all points of view and I understand that sometimes a great difference may lead to negative emotions in those people that participate. Furthermore, I think we should drop the term "troll" as a slang word for someone that is unpopular. There is a difference between unpopular opinions and someone that desires to create an unbalance in the dialogue.
This article is not written because I desire to depart from this site but I wish to express approval of my online profile's one year existence on it. It is the best place for those like me that may only have such a place to have these kinds of conversations and understanding different people that live in different states or even different countries is very beneficial.
I believe that I am wiser now, not simply older and I can thank the conversations on Newsvine for helping me "get smarter". I can't say that only I have been changed from the experience. Have any of you changed? I thank Newsvine and all its members that have had the conversations with me without anger and with an objective and open mind. Thank you.
